One of the United States’ most beloved founding fathers (and a darn cute string doll too!), Ben Franklin is known for his work as a politician, scientist, philosopher, inventor, diplomat and activist. In 1752, using a kite and a key, Franklin conducted his famous experiment that extracted electrical sparks from a cloud, proving that lightning is electricity. This later resulted in the invention of the lightning rod.
