Let's Talk about "Washington Island"

The history book which covers the longest span of years in the shop, this title is also popular because of the many photos as well as the extensive index of island residents names which is an easy way to check for personal connections to the island.

From the Foreword:
"The town of Washington was born on Rock Island, June 20th, 1850, at the home of Henry Miner.

The year 1950, being the one hundredth anniversary of this event it seems fitting to again call a meeting. We now take the record book from off the shelf to read the highlights in the Log of Time. The old woman from under the hill, the secretary, will now read the minutes of the last meeting.

Madam President; Lack of space makes it impossible to try to capture the many great moments in the lives of all those who contributed to the unfolding of the religious, social and civic life of the Island, for -

"All the World's a stage and all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts."
Shakespeare.

We hope that within these minutes there will be food for thought for the oldest as well as the youngest in this generation, and may the strangers who have come recently to these shores understand more readily the spirit that endears the Island to those who have developed this stretch of rocky soil, five miles square, isolated in a setting of capricious, colorful waters."
